Whether you are celebrating Galentine’s or Valentine’s day this year, the day is just around the corner! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’ve shortlisted our favourite date night ideas to celebrate with your loved one/s, that do NOT involve heading out to a restaurant. Don’t get us wrong, we love a dine-in experience, just not on Valentine’s Day when we end up shoulder-to-shoulder with 50 other couples having a set menu with a side of PDA.
For the film fanatics
There’s just something special about outdoor movie theatres. Perhaps it is being under the stars on a warm summer night, snuggled under a rug. Our favourite outdoor movie theatre is the Village Cinemas Coburg Drive-In, not only does being in your car make it Melbourne-weather-proof, we do enjoy the additional bit of seclusion! On Valentine’s Day, they will be steaming up the screens with the third instalment of the Magic Mike films, Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Celebrating on the weekend instead? Check out the full timetable here.
For the creative characters
Let your artistic talents flow on to a canvas at a paint and sip class. These classes welcome all skill levels, whether you can only muster up stick figures like a first-grader, or whether you are a budding Picasso, it’s just a whole lot of fun. Our studio favourite would be Paint for Fun in Port Melbourne, and like many other studios, they allow you to BYO your own food and drinks! However if you are after the convenience, and just want to rock up to paint, nibble and sip, we deliver to the Paint 4 Fun studio for free! Take a look at their wide range of class options here.
For the outdoor obsessed
This is very dependent on Melbourne’s unpredictable weather playing in your favour, but you could say it’s is all part of the fun - a little bit risqué! If you do get lucky with the weather, it is so so worth it! The tranquillity of the Royal Botanic Gardens never gets old, no matter how many times we visit. Pack a picnic, a bottle of bubbles and lay out amongst the greenery. We love to find an area right by the Nymphaea Lily Lake, and then exploring Guilfoyle's Volcano. At the peak of Guilfoyle's Volcano you will be met with beautiful views of the Melbourne CBD skyline and see the rest of the sprawling gardens. See the map to plan your visit here.
For the animal admirers
Now this date idea is a wild one. Surprise someone special with an overnight stay at the zoo. Yes, that’s right, the zoo. Roar ‘n’ Snore at the Melbourne Zoo, lets you stay overnight to see what the animals get up to once the sun goes down and wake up to the morning calls of gibbons and birds. It is a truly unique surprise date that they won’t be able to guess (hopefully!). This is only available Thursday - Saturday, so it will mean extending G/Valentine’s Day festivities by a few additional days, but you will definitely score yourself some brownie points for that!
